Youth & Teens On-Camera Acting Certificate Program
Get the Skills to Begin Your Acting Career
The 12-week Youth & Teen On Camera Acting Certificate Programs are offered every 4 months throughout the year and are designed to accommodate actors between the ages of 10-18 years old. Classes are broken into two age groups (10-14 & 15-18) to allow students to work with script content reflective of their age and life experience thus far.
By choosing to study acting, your child will be developing intangible life skills they’ll utilize in any career they choose to pursue in the future, beyond acting. Research shows that skills acquired through the performing arts – creativity, confidence, public speaking, teamwork, determination, problem solving and flexible thinking, radically improves outcomes for our children. In fact for many, access to expression through the arts is essential to mental health and their way of being in the world.
Classes have 8 students maximum and those taking part are typically beginner actors with no previous experience that are simply curious about acting and having fun, those who are interested in breaking into the world of Film & TV acting or those who are already auditioning and looking to build upon their skills. This program is broken into 3 key modules:
Module 1: Auditioning
Students learn the do’s and don’ts of the audition room, starting off with cold reading techniques in the first week. After which, students will be sent material prior to class to bring in for a “casting room simulation”.
Module 2: Scene Study
Students are paired up and given a scene to work on in class. Students will be expected to have their lines memorized in order to get the most out of this exercise. They will touch on script & character analysis and rehearsal techniques.
Module 3: Demo Reel
Students find themselves back in front of the camera to create a key part of the actor’s portfolio. Their demo reel will consist of two contrasting audition scenes edited together to give industry professionals, or you the parent, a sample of their hard work.
Certificates are awarded at the end of the program.
"VADA alumni are often seen at my auditions, and the confidence they have acquired through their training never fails to set them apart from the crowd when it comes to booking the job. Talent may be something an actor is born with, but confidence and professionalism are learned. VADA is an excellent place to learn these skills."
