Is an Acting Career Right for You?

About VADA

A Legacy of Success

Our Story

An acting in Vancouver posing at Graduation

VADA was originally founded in 1999. In its beginnings, the school offered only part-time classes. Over time the demand for classes grew, ultimately resulting in a full-blown academy with an entire faculty and studio..

With the mounting success of VADA graduates, the school expanded into a downtown studio on West Pender Street which was much more suitable as it boasted a little theatre and a light grid. Unfortunately, in 2003, a fire in the adjacent building caused enough damage to the downtown studio to force a move.

For the next two years, VADA resided on Hamilton Street in a bright, colorful and aesthetic 40-seat studio which was a beauty of a space in which to work. In the following years, VADA’s reputation grew, and by the summer of 2005 the Hamilton studio was bursting at the seams. With the Dramatic Arts Program (DAP) filled to maximum capacity, and VADA’s vision to expand even more, VADA moved yet again; this time planting itself into the heart of downtown Vancouver at 900 Helmcken.

Since its founding, VADA has trained thousands of actors who have come from all over the world. The techniques and training methods used are unsurpassed, and the results show in the success of our graduates; many of whom can be seen on mainstream television, feature films and commercials.

How Do We Do This

VADA sets the standard for outstanding training of actors and actresses. Every staff member who works at VADA is also a professional performer. That means every single person brings a wealth of knowledge and awareness to the studio. There is not a week that goes by where one of the staff is either on set, auditioning or preparing for a professional interview. Simply put, at VADA we teach by example.

What is it Like at VADA?

Many previous students claim VADA feels like a tight-knit family. There is a comfort here, where people can be their true selves and express themselves without judgment or criticism. The laser-focused dedication of the staff, coupled with an industry-driven curriculum makes VADA the premiere choice for any serious actor. I took the 2 week on camera acting intensive and it was an experience I will never forget. Going into it having no previous experience in the industry/acting whatsoever, it is incredible reflecting and seeing how much I have learned in just 2 weeks. Simon and Scott are amazing instructors and have an approach that is caring of the learning and success of their students. Graeme has been extremely helpful too.If you are looking for a sign, this is it – I would highly recommend anyone to sign up for any of their courses. Whether you are serious about acting or just want to step out of your comfort zone, VADA will provide that and more.Thank you!

VADA is a one of a kind school, they went above and beyond for my class. The staff helped me when ever I needed it, they where always super friendly and just great to talk to.Every teacher cares about us and is hoping for our success. Each one had their own teaching style that was refreshing because you had an idea about how each class would go. They all had incredibly important knowledge to share to my class that I believe will serve me and anyone who listens to it.I highly recommend VADA academy, I also recommend that anyone entering VADA should go in with an open heart and mind. Learn to love, respect and appreciate your class mates and your teachers and you will have an incredible year full of laughs and tears.

I took the two week intensive. The teachers were knowledgeable, Compassionate, and lifted each student up instead of breaking anyone down. We learned so much in the two weeks, and I really saw improvement on my acting and confidence. I even was able to book a commercial for Translink, with the help of VADA sending an audition notice. I am so grateful and thankful for all support from the teacher and administrations. They really care for all the students. This is your sign to enroll!

I was recommended Vada by a friend. She attended multiple courses and had nothing but great things to say about the programs, about how much she had learned and how great and supportive everyone was. The expectations were high when I started Intro to Acting Pace 1, and I can confirm I was not disappointed. Simon is knowledgeable, funny, and very supportive. I have learned so much about auditioning, acting and I have faced some of my fears in the process. Whether you are hoping to start a career in the film industry, or just get out of your comfort zone and do something fun that will help you grow, this course is a great place to start. Absolutely recommended.

I carefully chose this school to teach me as I am a busy person and do not have much time to waist. I finished 3 evening classes and strongly agree that training is extremely important if you have serious intentions. Teachers are great, Simon Longmore is like a deep well of great experience and knowledge that you can draw from. School location is convenient and evening classes end not too late. Staff is nice, helpful, reliable. Overall, a friendly and professional atmosphere definitely helps to overcome the challenges of stepping into a new career.
