Getting an Audition

TIPS FOR LANDING AN AUDITION

The entertainment industry can be very tough to crack, even for the most passionate of performers. There’s a lot of competition out there, and standing out in the crowd can be extremely important for ensuring success. But don’t despair – with a little hard work and dedication, you can land that dream audition. In this article, we’re going to outline some simple but helpful tips to get you started and get you in the room!

POLISH UP THAT RESUME AND UPDATE YOUR HEADSHOT

One of the first and moss important steps to getting yourself out there is getting your headshot and resume in order. Make sure your resume is up-to-date with all the relevant information you need (said as succinctly as possible, of course). Ensure your headshots are current and professionally produced. When you send in your submission package, you want to make sure whoever is looking at it is impressed with what they see and will remember you when the time comes to make those calls.

DO YOUR RESEARCH AND GET ORGANIZED

Familiarize yourself with the type of roles you’re seeking and target specific casting directors who are looking for talent like yours. Keep track of your submissions (sometimes a helpful chart is a good idea!), and be ready to follow up on those submissions as needed. Check in periodically to show that you’re interested in getting an audition, but also be mindful about not becoming a nuisance. You want to stand out for the right reasons!

BE ON THE RADAR

Agents and managers are a great way to help introduce you to the right people, but there are more options. Attending events where you can meet others and network is a great way to start familiarizing yourself with people in the industry. This will also help them familiarize with you so that when something comes up, they’re more likely to think of you. You never know who you’ll run into and what important information you’ll receive, so don’t be afraid to chat it up.

PUT TOGETHER A GREAT DEMO REEL

A great demo reel showcases exactly what you can do and gives others a good idea of whether or not they’ll want you to come and audition for them. Prove to whoever is watching your video that they want to see more of you. Grab their attention, even in just fifteen or twenty seconds, and you’re far more likely to get a call for that audition you’re hoping for. Watching other performers’ demo reels is a great way to get some inspiration, but make sure you make your own demo reel uniquely yours.

We know that you want to be able to go on as many auditions as possible, and we know that it can be a daunting process. In such a competitive industry, there’s a lot of pressure to stand out in the crowd. We hope this article gave you a good idea of what you can do to land as many auditions as possible. Good luck!
