Scholarships for Acting Classes
Financial Incentives for Hardworking Students
At VADA we understand financing your education can be difficult. Therefore we offer scholarship opportunities to help ease the financial burden for our students. Check out the available scholarships below, and contact VADA directly for Scholarship Applications at 604-633-1525.
VADA’s High School Scholarship Award (Domestic Students Only)
Students graduating in the current high school year are eligible to apply for up to $500 Scholarship Award.
- Must be a Canadian, Permanent Resident or Landed Immigrant
- Graduating in the current high school year at the time of applying
- Applicant must have completed at least (3) years of English in a Canadian High School
- Applicant must have completed at least (2) years of Acting, Drama or Theatre class during High School
Application must be accompanied by:
- Copy of Official Photo ID
- Copy of high school transcripts (Interim or Final)
- Letter of Recommendation from a Dramatic Arts Instructor or Career Counsellor
- 250 Word Essay discussing:
a) Why would you like to study Acting for Film & TV?
b) Why have you chosen Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts (VADA) to pursue your studies?
*Please Note:
- All scholarship applications will be assessed by VADA’s Scholarship Committee.
- Scholarship awards may only be applied toward tuition for the full-time Dramatic Arts Program Diploma and may not be exchanged or redeemed for cash or credit.
- Scholarship will be awarded once a candidate has successfully applied for and been accepted into the Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts (VADA)
- Scholarship applications will not be accepted after the start date of your program
- Scholarship awards up to $500 (CDN) will be awarded based upon the completion and content of all required scholarship requirements
Application Deadline: Application for scholarships must be received by August 1st of an applicant’s final year of high school.
Scholarship award is valid for (1) year from the date of issue
Scholarship Awards may not be used toward part-time study courses and may only be used toward VADA’s Full Time Dramatic Arts Program Diploma
VADA’s Domestic Scholarship Award
Any domestic applicant who has graduated high school (or is over the age of 19 years old at the time of applying) is eligible to apply for up to $1,000 in Scholarship Award.
- No program application or fee is required to apply for scholarship.
- Applicants must be over the age of 19 at the time of application.
- High school graduation is not a pre-requisite for applying for this scholarship.
- Must be a Canadian, Permanent Resident or Landed Immigrant.
- All scholarship applications will be assessed by VADA’s Scholarship Committee.
- Scholarship awards may only be applied toward tuition for the Dramatic Arts Program Diploma and may not be exchanged or redeemed for cash.
- Scholarship will be awarded once a candidate has successfully applied for acceptance and paid the required 30% tuition downpayment for their program.
- Scholarship applications will not be accepted after the start date of your program.
- Scholarship awards of between $0 – $1,000 (CDN) will be awarded based upon the completion and content of all 4 required scholarship components (see below):
1. Completed Scholarship Application (with copy of photo ID attached)
2. Written Essay:
- Must be a minimum 500 words in length, written in English in a word document and received in a PDF format. Must include discussion on all of the following topics:
A) When did your interest in acting begin?
B) Have you studied acting in high school or post-secondary university or college?
C) What roles or productions have you been involved in?
D) What actors inspire you to pursue a career in acting? Why?
E) Why do you feel you would be a good candidate for or school?
F) How do you plan to manage the costs of tuition downpayment (30% of tuition), remaining tuition and living expenses while staying in Vancouver?
G) What are your career plans upon completing our Dramatic Arts Program Diploma?
3. Copy of high school or post-secondary transcripts:
- Includes transcripts from accredited high school/university/college.
- Certification from other acting schools where training has been received also accepted.
- Must be in English (or accompanied by official English translation).
- If applying as a “Mature Student” without high school graduation, transcripts not required.
4. Self-tape performing a monologue in English:
- Monologue selected may be of your own choosing, but must be in English.
- A title card or explanation of where monologue is from should occur at the outset of the clip.
- Monologue must last a minimum 2 minutes and maximum of 4 minutes in length.
- A video camera, webcam or cell phone may be used to record monologue.
- Video clip of monologue must be attached to email containing all other required documents.

VADA’s International Scholarship Award
Any international applicant who has graduated high school (or is over the age of 19 years old at the time of applying) is eligible to apply for up to $1,000 in Scholarship Award.
- Must be an International person living or studying inside or outside of Canada.
- Applicants may include recent high school graduates (or those over the age of 19 without high school graduation when applying).
- All scholarship applications will be assessed by VADA’s Scholarship Committee.
- Scholarship awards may only be applied toward tuition for the Dramatic Arts Program Diploma and may not be exchanged or redeemed for cash.
- Scholarship will be awarded once a candidate has successfully applied for acceptance and paid the required 50% tuition downpayment for their program.
- Scholarship awards of between $0 – $1,000 (CDN) will be awarded based upon the completion and content of all 5 required scholarship components (see below):

2. Written Essay:
- Must be a minimum 500 words in length, written in English in a word document and received in a PDF format. Must include discussion on all of the following topics:

B) Have you studied acting in high school or post-secondary university or college?

3. English Proficiency Test Score: We accept only IELTS or TOEFL iBT
- IELTS (minimum score 6.5 or higher)
- TOEFL iBT (minimum score 79 or higher)

Walker Saunders-Welsh High School Scholarship Award
Students graduating in the current high school year are eligible to apply for a $2,000 scholarship award.
This scholarship is available for Domestic Students only.
Deadline for Applications: August 31st (for September start dates) and Feb 1st (for March start dates).
6-Month Advanced Diploma Scholarship Award
Have you successfully completed a Dramatic Arts Diploma at VADA or an Acting Diploma at another on-camera acting school? If so, you may be eligible for a $1,000 Scholarship Award for use toward VADA’s 6-Month Advanced Dramatic Arts Diploma program. Learn more.
Applicants must provide a copy of an official Diploma issued by VADA (or an equivalent acting school) focusing on on-camera acting studies.
